Glaucoma

New Modern Technology Allows Early Diagnosis of Glaucoma

Glaucoma Treatment BronxDr. Dankner is pleased to announce that our office has available such modern technologies as HRT, OCT, and visual-field testing with progression software. These technologies coupled with Dr. Dankner’s extensive experience in diagnosing and treating thousands of glaucoma patients, allows Dankner Eye Associates to be on the forefront of early detection and effective management of glaucoma.

Glaucoma is the term for when the pressure inside the eye rises high enough to damage the optic nerve. The condition often develops over many years without causing pain – so you may not experience vision loss until the disease has progressed. Glaucoma cannot be prevented, and vision lost to it cannot be restored. Left untreated, glaucoma can cause blindness. For these reasons, regular eye exams and early detection are critical.

New Laser Technology Helps to Slow the Progression of Glaucoma.

Dr. Dankner performs the SLT (Selective Laser Trabeculectomy) procedure. This procedure is an in-office painless glaucoma procedure that takes less than one minute. This laser treatment may prevent the progression of glaucoma and may also help to decrease or eliminate the dependence on glaucoma eye drops.

Glaucoma Treatment BronxYou are a high risk patient for developing Glaucoma if you are:

  • over 50 years old
  • Hispanic
  • African American
  • have diabetes
  • have hypertension
  • have a family history of glaucoma

Unfortunately, open-angle glaucoma has very few symptoms until the optic nerve is damaged and vision loss is permanent. Although there are usually no symptoms early in the disease, if you experience the following symptoms, you should take them as warning signs:

  • blurred vision
  • loss of peripheral vision
  • halo effects around lights
  • painful and/or reddened eyes

If you are in a high-risk group for developing glaucoma or currently have glaucoma call Dankner Eye Associates at (718) 823-9227 for a glaucoma consultation. Dankner Eye Associates accepts most insurances.
